Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of identifying the features of equivalent translation of English realia in linguistic-cultural texts into the Uzbek and Russian languages. The relevance of this study is due, firstly, the need to continue a detailed study and comparison of realities in modern media discourse, and secondly, a keen interest in the problem of translating realities from English into Uzbek and Russian, comparing and identifying the features of realities within the framework of different linguistic environments, thirdly, with the need to further develop the possibilities of translation studies in the field of non-equivalent vocabulary, namely realia. The research is carried out on the material of modern media texts introducing information about the USA and UK. Corpus linguistics methods were chosen to identify, collect and analyze English realia in modern media texts, describe equivalent translation techniques used to convey the meaning in the process of translation of these realia into Uzbek or Russian. Based on the statement that any piece of text can theoretically be conceived of being a corpus, the sample passages, chapters, and blog entries that are maximally representative of the variety under examination were selected and translated. A corpus was also of finite size (logically separate) and constitute a common reference for the language which it presents (regular in content). For the most successful interpretation of realia as a translation term, the author of the article used the method of comparisons and contradictions. This analysis allows us to conclude that the boundaries between realia and all of the above elements are largely blurred since sometimes they can all be considered real for a variety of reasons. It was revealed that translation strategies of realia are dictated by the anthropological approach to linguistics in general and to translation studies in particular. The determining factors are extra linguistic and linguistic aspects, as well as the subjective perception of an interpreter or translator.
