SEMANTIC (PRESUPPOSITION) ANALYSIS OF LEGAL DISCOURSE IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK LANGUAGES

Abstract

The paper examines presupposition and presupposition triggers of legal discourse in English and Uzbek. Indeed, pragmalinguistics or linguistic pragmatics, dealing with such issues as the relationship between the addresser and the addressee, the effective and correct use of language units to influence the addressee and effectively achieve the intended goal, is a new branch of linguistics, and the main attention of linguists was focused on presupposition, discourse theory, evaluative words and means, and speech etiquette, which are central pragmatic phenomena. The phenomenon of presupposition named by the terms subtext, presumption and pragmatic meaning was also interpreted differently by linguists. Nevertheless, common views such as a common fund of knowledge, a set of previously known knowledge, and a necessary condition for speech communication began to be used to reveal the true essence of this phenomenon. Despite the fact that presupposition is the object of many studies in Uzbek linguistics, it has not been studied separately at each level of the language. In general, regardless of their different names, in both discourses under study, units of the morphological level are active in indicating presupposition.
