Abstract

Etiquette is particularly important to the British, and they pass down conventions of politeness from generation to generation. Because politeness is such a vital and integral aspect of English culture and psyche, the capacity to show compassion and condolences is a crucial feature of English communication. In human communication, sympathy and condolence are employed in response to unfavorable situations. Condolence is a type of sympathy with its own set of traits. The circumstances in which condolences are offered differ from those in which sympathies are expressed. The practical basis for expressing sympathy and condolences in English communicative language are discussed in this article, as well as the contrasts between the two.
